The Unique Permit (leja unike) is a single document that combines the right to reside and the right to work in Albania. It is regulated by Law No. 79/2021 “On Foreigners” and its implementing acts. Instead of applying separately for a residence permit and a work permit, you submit one application online through the e-Albania portal.
Depending on your situation, the permit can be issued for 1, 2, 3 or 5 years, and in some cases on a permanent basis. Applications are submitted electronically only once. Depending on your case and your country of citizenship, you may need to be physically present in Albania when you apply.
To qualify, every applicant must have:
The Unique Permit covers several categories. The most common are:
| Category | Who it is for |
|---|---|
| Employee | Foreign nationals with an employment contract with an Albanian employer |
| Self-employed | Freelancers and sole traders registered in Albania |
| Highly qualified employee | Specialists with higher qualifications and salary levels |
| Intra-company transfer | Managers and specialists transferred by a foreign company to its Albanian branch or subsidiary |
| Investor | Foreign nationals investing in a business in Albania |
| Digital mover (digital nomad) | Remote workers employed by or providing services to companies outside Albania |
Other categories exist for seasonal workers, cross-border workers, vocational training, volunteers, athletes and contracted services. Not sure which one applies to you? We assess your case and confirm the right category before you apply. See also: types of residence permits in Albania.
The documents required depend on your category, your nationality and your personal situation. In general, they cover your identity, the reason for your stay (for example, employment or business activity), your accommodation in Albania and your financial means. Most foreign documents also need an apostille or legalisation and a certified Albanian translation.
Because every case is different, we do not rely on generic checklists. In a preliminary consultation we review your situation and give you the detailed list of documents, so your application is complete the first time.
Timeline: the legal maximum is 12 weeks from the application date, with each institution having up to 2 weeks for its review. If a document is missing, the migration officer notifies you within 5 days and you have up to 30 days to complete the file. A complete, correct file is the best way to avoid delays.

She made the process easy and stress free. She helped with getting our health insurance, translating documents and even making appointments at the US Embassy. I required an Albanian Residence Permit and, after some online research, identified JBC & Associates. I explained my circumstances over the phone and then visited their offices, conveniently located near the Air Albania Stadium in Tirana, to complete the necessary documentation. Within three hours of making first contact, my application had been submitted to the Immigration Department and has since resulted in the successful issuance of my Residence Permit. Full marks to Jene and her colleagues for their fast, efficient, and courteous servicePosted on Google![]()

Been trying to apply for a residence permit through other agents and got few rejects, before I was recommended and guided to this agency. They worked perfectly and very efficiently - gave me a full overview on the current status of my documents, application, provided a clear strategy on what shall we do and eventually secured my visa! The costs are also very reasonable and I'd rather came to them immediately - would actually save me more money :D. Well done, thank you!
